Hi everyone,
I just moved to the bay area about a week ago. I am a beginner silk dancer. I have my own rig in my backyard that I am able to train on daily but I am looking for some training ideas that I can do off the silk. What do all of you do to stay in shape? I have been practicing for about 5 months, I am real solid in the basic tricks but struggle immensely with straddle ups. Have straddle ups been challenging for anyone else? How did you get over the learning hump? Hope to get to know and play with some of you in the future!
Cheers!

Re: Off rig training
Mon, May 18, 2009 - 6:47 PMI know what you mean about straddle ups. I can't do them with straight legs at all.
I can't say I'm in shape, though. I should get into Pilates, that would help a lot. -

Sat, September 19, 2009 - 10:41 PMdo lots of lower ab strengthening exercise. I found that those helped me w/ straddled up immensely. Also quad strengthening so that u can maintain that beautiful straight leg when u straddle up.

Mon, October 12, 2009 - 4:45 PMThat's great you have a rig in the backyard! I'm really struggling because my class was terminated, and right now I'm really busy. I wish I had my own rig to--at the very least--maintain strength. What is your rig on?
